I haven't even played the game but I did just purchase it, and it does appear that the map has a lot of wasted real estate. I also would like to see it improved as that is the general sentiment here and elsewhere.

I agree with Carl. The current map makes a very poor use of valuable map space. Things that you only need once (like the map legend) could be in the rulebook. The Combat results tables could be smaller or on a Player Aid Sheet. A great game, but what a poor map layout, sorry.

Hopefully GMT will take this opportunity to remove the charts/tables from the mapboard and put a full map with larger hexes. Doing the reprint "as is" would be mildly insulting, to say the least. :-(

Based on positive feedback to our recent spate of mounted mapboards, we are offering mounted maps for several more of our most popular Card-Driven games as P500 items.  These are regular 22 x 34 inch game maps, but mounted - same quality as Washington's War and the recent Here I Stand, Sword of Rome, Wilderness War, and Paths of Glory reprint versions.
